Below are the voting procedures to be used at the Brighton Estates POA board restructuring meeting.
As per the court order, a total of seven board positions will be elected:
Three to fill one-year terms
Two to fill two-year terms
Two to fill three-year terms
Rules for Voting:
All board members must be elected by a MAJORITY OF THOSE ATTENDING THE MEETING.
You must be present to vote. Proxy votes will not be accpeted.
Election Procedures:
Each new board member will be elected in a separate process. No combination or
ranked group voting procedure will be used. It will go as follows for each seat.
Election manager will open nominations for a board member for a one-year term.
Nominations will then be taken from the floor or added from the list of pre-
meeting nominations if any. Their names will be written on the white board in the
order they are nominated.
Note: A person can be nominated and not be present however, that person will need
to present a letter to those present announcing that they are seeking the seat, will
accept the position and understand the responsibilities of the office. They may
provide a substitute speaker for the elections.
2. Nominations cease by motion, second and voice vote from the floor.
3. Nominated persons will have three minutes to speak to the group.
4. During or after speeches, ballots will be passed out, and everyone will vote for
one person on the ballots provided. They will then be dropped in the ballot box
only when their name has been checked and cleared on the list of owners.
5. Once all ballots are in (by count), they are tabulated for each nominated person.
The temporary board will ask for and select four people from the group to count
ballots. One of the four will watch the process as the others count.
All nominated people in that voting cycle will be allowed an observer to watch the
counting process.
6. When the vote is finished, if a single person in that cycle receives 50% plus one
or more of the eligible votes, they are elected. The election process for the next
seat can proceed. If no one gets 50% plus one or more, the person with the
lowest number of votes in that voting cycle is eliminated and another vote takes
place. This process continues until someone receives the requirement of 50%
plus one. This process will be repeated seven times.
